Calcium
Calcium is the most plentiful mineral in the body. It is essential in the formation of bones and teeth and important in preventing osteoporosis. It also plays a role in blood clotting, nerve transmission and in muscle contraction. Calcium appears to help lower blood pressure and decreases the risk of colon cancer.

Most people don’t consume adequate amounts of dietary calcium, which contributes to the risk of osteoporosis. The Daily Recommended Intake (DRI) for adults aged 19 – 50 is 1,000 mg. For adults over age 50, the recommendation is 1,200 mg daily. Vitamin D is needed for calcium absorption, so 400 IU of vitamin D should be consumed daily as well. Calcium is found in dairy products, green leafy vegetables such as broccoli and kale and fortified fruit juice.

Three tablets of Ray & Terry's Cal–Mag contain 1000 mg of calcium as well as 200 IU of vitamin D.

Magnesium
Magnesium helps to relax smooth muscle, and in so doing can decrease blood pressure as well as improve blood flow to the heart. It appears to work along with calcium to prevent cardiac irregularities. Magnesium may help reduce insulin resistance (metabolic syndrome). It is needed for formation of bone, protein and fatty acids. It activates B vitamins and is utilized in the formation of ATP.

Magnesium is also helpful in treating high blood pressure, asthma, anxiety and depression, fatigue, osteoporosis, diabetes, chronic lung disease, migraine, fibromyalgia and PMS. It is found naturally in nuts, grains, beans, dark green vegetables, fish and meat.

The DRI for adult women is 320 mg and 420 mg for men, but we recommend 400 – 600 mg per day for most adults. Magnesium can interact with a number of medications including diuretics, some antibiotics and chemotherapeutic agents. Large doses of magnesium may cause diarrhea, and caution is needed in cases of kidney dysfunction.

Three tablets of Ray & Terry's Cal–Mag contain 500 mg of magnesium.

Dosage: 3 tablets per day. Daily amount can be divided and taken throughout the day.
